From Kites to tiny robots: April 2026

April is packed with exciting ways to explore STEM all around us! This month, we’re taking learning to new heights with Kite Month, discovering how engineering and aerodynamics help kites soar through the sky. We’ll also look up to the stars and diving into the exciting new world of tiny swimming robots.

History of Kites

April is National Kite Month, and we’re celebrating by exploring the fascinating history, science, and engineering behind these high-flying creations. From their early use in weather experiments and meteorological observations to their role in advancing space-age engineering, kites have helped shape our understanding of the world and beyond.

Tiny Swimming Robots

Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have created some of the tiniest robots ever, so small they’re even smaller than a grain of salt! Even though you can barely see them without a microscope, these mini robots have their own tiny “brains” (computers) and can move on their own.
